Canada in the 19th century
Social Studies 10 looks at Canada in the 19th century, the history of British Columbia, and provides a basic understanding of Canada's economic development past and present. Major themes are linked to the attempts by the British Upper classes to establish a British-style system soon under attack as a result of American pressures and the need to reform not only the way the colonies are run politically but are responsible to the needs of the people. Canada's relationship of the two founding nations is examined as well as Canada's expansionist views and how these views eventually lead to Canada's first constitutional arrangement. Social Studies 10 also looks at the history of British Columbia and Canada's resources and subsequent trade.
