Social Studies 11 Course Outline
I. History. This unit on History looks at how Canada has become an autonomous country and what the main forces are that have developed throughout the twentieth century that shape the relationships between Canadians from coast to coast and the world.[September to January]
II. Geography. This unit seeks to provide students with an understanding of the demographic changes at work when countries move through different stages of economic development, how Canada can play a part in helping developing countries improve their standard of living and develop trade relationships. This unit also looks at the role Canadians can play in promoting sustainable economic development in light of environmental challenges.[February to April]
III. Government. This unit examines the evolution of ideologies in Canada, political parties and the development of citizenship as well as the structure of the Canadian political system.[May and June]
