Canada's Natural Regions Assignment
1. Create a map of Canada in which you show the different natural regions. Create a legend to show these regions. Create a table in which you describe the characteristics of Canada's regions for the following categories: a. topography, b. climate, c. vegetation. For each category, do not just simply describe what is there at present, but explain how each element has evolved or continues to change.
Then, create a worksheet in which you provide a minimum of ten questions and three activities for the class.
2. One way to describe regional differences is to examine the climate of a region. This can be done by taking average measurements of temperature and precipitation over a long period of time and connect this information with data on vegetation. Vegetation plays an important role in climate description as plants must adapt to the temperature and precipitation conditions of a place long-term. Changes in vegetation can therefore be an important indicator about climate changes. As vegetation provides the food base for animals, certain animal species will also adapt to certain climate zones. Taken together, climate, vegetation, animal life all contribute to different types of biomes.
Create climographs for each of the Canadian biomes. Use the information in this link: http://www.sd34wikis.com/groups/canadiangeographicregions/wiki/b70a9/Map_and_Climograph.html.
